Trickle Up & Down Theory

My hair has seen many a style change over the past 23 years. Every length imaginable and numerous shades of brown and black. Nothing too drastic. Besides the traumatic summer of '93 that I spent as a boy. Short hair was less of a cute pixie cut on me, and more of an, "awww, what a cute little guy!" cut. Thanks mom.

Now that my hair is long and 100% girly these days, I've been thinking of jumping on the {Ombre} bandwagon. It's messy, imperfect, low-maintenance. Pretty much my middle name.

Then I stumbled on this picture of me back in 2005...with Ombre hair? The look I'm giving says, "You're laughing at my overgrown roots now...well, you can catch this hair color spreading across the globe in about 6 years, thank you very much."

Or something like that.

xoxo

  3. can I give an ombre warning? is that ok even though I am hair-tarded?

The picture you found is by far one of the best I've seen, but some people look gawd awful with "ombre" hair. I'm sure if you googled it, you know what I mean.

My friend had hers done this weekend, and it took 7 hours : 0 But it looks amazing!

  4. Oh, I'd love to see you with ombre hair. I'm sure it'll look great on you! But I really like your current hair color as well.
I agree with Piril Maria: you look gorgeous either way! :)

  5. It think it would be, could be, should be cute! I've had a lot of hair color changes in the past few years -- it gets addicting -- but surprisingly mine has been natural for the past year. I'm thought about doing ombre too, but I just don't know.

  7. I stumbled into the Ombre look on accident in the fall because I dyed my hair black and it looked so hideous but I'm far from a "highlights" person so she ribboned them in. I LOVED it, but then the dark all faded out and it's pretty much all brown now. If you're thinking about it, just go for it!

  8. Go for it while you still can! I couldn't pull it off because I've got so much gray now (at 31) that I can't let my roots grow out at all or I look like a skunk. Sad, but true. You rock that umber hair and go on with your bad self! :)

  11. Top pic is Ah-mazing!! My hair has a mind of it's own, frizzy semi-curly unruley hot mess!! If it's cut above my shoulders it's just shy of a white girls afro! Remember when perms were the thing to do? Yeah, my mom sent me for 1 every 6 months until I was old enough to protest - thanks mom!

Have a great Thursday and rock those roots!

  20. Isn't it funny to look back at old photos that you thought were mildly regrettable, only to realise that if you were wearing that style right now, you would be the height of fashion? Too funny :) I've had passing thoughts of going the ombre route myself, but at the end of the day decided against it... For as many girls as I've seen look fabulous with it, I've seen ten more looking sallow and washed out :( Can't wait to see how yours turns out if you decide to go for it! Love from your newest follower.

I say to go for it on the hair!

  25. I love the ombre look! But with my 'awkward length hair' {you know not quite shoulder length but not long} it would look like just bad roots! :)

  26. I'm letting my highlights grow out. Laziness? Cheapness? Probably both. But my excuse is that I'm going for the ombre look. Thanks for the comment today. I'm following. Hope you'll follow back!

  29. Bon Bon,

    (Love the name)

Low maintenance hair is always nice. Mine is really long now, too. I would love to go get some carmel highlights, but then I don't for months, *(and usually get scolded by my stylist for having gone so long with dark roots), but now that I've got little kids, I need LOW maintenance.

I started laughing when I read the pixie cut. Years ago, Mr.MBL convinced me to chop off all of my hair a-la pixie cut. I felt like I looked like a boy, no matter how much hair stuff I put in, lipgloss I wore, blush I put on, or feminine looking earrings I was wearing. He likes it long now, but has mentioned the short hair thing.

    Been there, done that.

P.S. Thanks for following my tiny little blog.
