Peet's Coffee Give A Cup {Giveaway}

I am a human living in Portland, Oregon spending my days with a 20 month old baby boy. 

You'd better believe I am completely in love with all things coffee and caffeine. 

Peet's Coffee and I go way back to my nanny days. Then, I was a single human living in Portland, Oregon spending my days with a 3 year old AND a 9 month old. 

You'd better believe that I REALLY loved all things coffee and caffeine. Thankfully, Peet's was about 60 seconds away from my nanny fam's house. 16 oz. White Mocha every morning on my way to the land of Legos and Thomas the Train.

Duh. I gave a cup about zombies. Walking Dead!

Whim Wham Weekend

Summer always embellishes that insane time-vortex phenomenon where the days feel looooooong yet the weeks zip by. The sugary good-full haze of blackberry basil lemonade, sweet tea, iced vanilla coffee, dirty shirley temples, and pisco punch sure help take the edge off of any impending vacation ending doom. You know, THE doom, when your cart rolls past the aisles of 50% off summer merchandise at Target and into the school supplies Abyss. 

I'm 25 years old, and a row of TI-84 graphing calculators still breaks me out in hives. 

Until the natural grey of the Pacific Northwest ushers us back inside, and until I need to find the sine, cosine, and/or tangent of life, we'll be outside sipping on Mexican Coca Cola, wearing flowers in our hair, and learning the art of the somersault.

SpotLight: Pretty & Cute

I may be half-Korean, but until my brief stint in Hawaii where my "Unni" (Big Sister) Jaeyoung took me under her wings, my basic knowledge was pretty much: 

Bulgogi=Good, Kimchi=Bad. 

Top Ramen=Really Good. 

You get the picture.

My recent visit to NYC and one particularly unforgettable night in Korea-town, once again opened my eyes (and tastebuds), to all the good that arises from the East. 

Food/Fashion/Technology/Trends. 

Lots of good. 

Especially, the Beauty products!!!!

You thought Sephora was bad, until you see a rainbow of lipgloss tubes with BUNNY EARS!

Fortunately, beauty extraordinaire Ruth helped bring me back down to earth and pick out some fun new products to try, (after I yelled, "It's so FLUFFFFFY!" and drooled all over the floor at Pretty & Cute's newly located flagship store). 

I'm pretty sure this is where princesses buy their makeup.

Summer Hairs

This little Whim Wham sheep family has been shorn. 

Between my hair (chopped off 11+ inches!!!), and Bean's (sweaty baby curls!!!) we could probably make about three wigs and a toupee, respectively. 

Haircuts are definitely a rejuvenating luxury for me. Nothing compares to that wash/massage/rinse trifecta of perfection in a salon, 

but the Bean took it up a notch during his makeover the other night...

with an ice cream sundae, movie, and bubble bath. 

Talk about full service, (courtesy of DaDa).  

If I ever decide to go G.I. Jane, I know where to go. Until then, I'll stick to my gossip magazines and complimentary beverage {here}.

The Usual & Unusual Weekend

Check out our last visit to the zoo {here}

This weekend we did the usual: Eat! 

{Jam} {Las Primas} {Little Big Burger} {Salt & Straw}

Both, I repeat, both locations of Salt & Straw were conquered. 

Shut.It.Down. We ate it all. 

Vanilla & Almond Brittle & Chocolate Brownie & smidges of Olive Oil, Thai Iced Tea, Chai, and Kombucha flavors.  

That, my friends, is the epitome of a good weekend. 

And the whole waiting outside-in-the-rain for an ice cream cone is the epitome of a TRUE Oregonian weekend. 

We also did something out of the usual: Celebrated a pachyderm's 51st birthday! 

Free raspberry cake and elephant ear party favors. 

The entire zoo was celebrating. 

Especially the Ménage à trois going on in the giraffe exhibit. 

We will never look at Sophie the same way again...

Hope your weekend was full of light and life and goodness and only rated PG-13. or so.

City Life

Date nights make me happy. Especially when it involves food.

Honestly, Daniel could just take me to Burgerville and I'd be a happy camper.

Happy because I eat "fast food" about 3 times a year and sometimes grease just tastes really good, just throwing that out there.

Happy because I sometimes feel like a teenage boy going through an awkward growth spurt and I.must.eat.everything.in.sight.

Happy because it's date night, and who could be anything but happy on date night?

Friday night, I was in a lovely mood. Friday night was date night and it involved Portland City Grill food!

High above the sparkling city on the 30th floor, we ate sushi and bread appetizers, and drank yummy martinis and ales.

Followed by our entrees.

{Garlic Herb Grilled Pork Tenderloin}

aaaaaaand I ordered this, in a moment of weakness

We promptly raced home and fell into a food coma while watching random shows on Netflix.

Did I mention we sometimes build forts in our living room while we watch tv?

We do. And we did. Then we ate chips, salsa, and guzzled raspberry lemonade.

Portland is Infamous

I love telling people that I'm an Oregonian. Is it just me, or do most Oregonians feel this way? Maybe we are a little proud in our thinking, but honestly, whenever I tell someone out of state where I'm from, they get a little wistful look in their eyes. Either they've heard of this magical place, visited the state, moved away and wish they still were here, or have no idea where Orrr-eee-gone is on a map but are intrigued by the promise of city-country-beach-dessert-mountain living.

Yes, we have some quirks. Most political and legal matters drive me up the wall. Rainy days can get a tad melancholy. On the bright side though, we have interesting places to explore, people are (generally) friendly, perfect seasons year-round (especially summer), and the streets are flowing with coffee and beer. Plus, no sales tax and many of us don't know how to pump gas, both of which always throws me for a loop when I'm traveling. Many a time I've found myself fumbling for another dollar in change in the check-out line or awkwardly sitting at the gas station waiting for service...oops. Darn Oregonians.

I love Portland. Rip City is in my blood, (My grandparents used to sponsor the Trailblazers, so I grew up going to the games and eating dinner with the team. Yes, I thought I was famous and yes, I did wear a Blazers cheerleading outfit). Oregon will always have a special place in my heart.

Now we have a show focused on us too! "Portlandia", a 6-part short-based comedy series starring Fred Armisen (SNL) and Carrie Brownstein (vocalist/guitarist), airs on IFC Fridays at 10:30 starting January 21st. The 1st episode is online now though. Can't wait to see Portland through their eyes with a little self-deprecating humor! "The dream of the 90's is alive in Portland." Supposedly. Ok. Yeah. I can see it. Definitely check it out!
