Whim Wham Weekend #22

{4x4}

1). Road trips. The whole back and forth, there and back thing means twice the opportunity to finagle a pit stop at Sonic for Happy Hour. And finagle I did. Twice. And consume I did. Twice. an inhumane amount of Cherry Limeade and popcorn chicken.

2). Baby Bean's Sunday best. Mr. Rogers would be so proud.

3). My boys staying up past bedtime, thanks to ESPN (for Daniel) and the ever-so-stimulating dark brown shelves on the wall (for Baby).

4). Pretty girly frilly stuff. Like glittery purple nail polish and bouncy ombré curls. Someone's gotta do it around here. What with all the basketball and football and burping and farting going on.

Déjà vu? If you follow me on Instagram (bonifous), then you might be getting that eery feeling.
been there, done that, saw those.
But now you have a brief synopsis of what those images truly encompassed.
{Even though a picture is worth a thousand words and all that jazz}

Blog Tip #29

Brain fart? Writer's block? Lazy bones?
When all else fails...
Post something cute.
And I mean cuuuuuuute.
The cuter the better.

{Sidenote: Doesn't have to be a roly-poly dimple chinned baby...
but they probably are the greatest kind of cute out there. just sayin'}

P.S. I was reunited with Mr. Uninterrupted Eight Hours of Sleep last night.
{thank you, roly-poly dimple chinned baby, thank you}
oh my.
He was a good time.

Hear Ye Hear Ye

{come hither}

The Whim Wham Life is

officially accepting new sponsors!

In my mind, this was the most genius business plan.
A photo of a saucy me, enticing fellow bloggers and entrepreneurs into gaining some serious sidebar action.

However, 99.999999% of my readers are women...immune to such sauciness.
And my male readers...well, I'd like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to them. my husband. and my dad. annnnd my grandpa.

saucy has now quickly turned creepy.

cricket. cricket.

So. Daniel. Jim. Tom.
Want to sponsor me?
You guys think I'm cute, right?

And anyone else out there.
Please feel free to email me for additional details/info/stats/prices!
{thewhimwhamlife@gmail.com}

minimum awkward.

maximum fun.
that's my new business plan.

minimum awkward?
riiiiiiiiight.

Real Talk

{grizzly bear wool socks today. but at least my legs are shaved.
no big deal.}

Don't get me wrong.

That would be my disclaimer for this blog post.
Remember it. You might occasionally pull those four words out every so often in your mind.

...

Beautiful and pretty things are everywhere. And I'm a big fan of those things.
I'm inspired by those things.
I dream. long. ache. for them on a daily basis.
The stuff of true beauty, mind you. Forget what the world has to say about beauty.
Hey, World! Yeah, I'm talking to you, you big ol' marble in the sky. You know what? Sometimes you can be a real nincompoop when it comes to your version of what's true and beautiful.

{insert my disclaimer here}

I love blogging.
The writing. The creative freedom. The people. It's a beautiful beautiful astonishingly beautiful community.

If you've been a reader of The Whim Wham Life for any amount of time, I bet {hope} you'll realize that things are a little different around here.
Here's my secret:
something about going against the flow, being different, has always lit a fire in me.

My favorite color for the past 18 years has been green, because all the girls in kindergarten were picking pink and purple. Even at 5 years of age, I couldn't stomach the thought of doing something because everyone else was doing it.

A part of me hopes Baby Bean feels the same way someday... {not necessarily having a passionate picking his favorite color-"I have a dreammmm"- moment that his dramatically stubborn mama did} but a feeling of something and doing something nonetheless.

Yes. My posts might normally have pretty fluffy things. Summarizing sweet rain-soaked Portland weekends. A fancy-shmancy recipe or two. The celebration of a good hair day.
But.
The dirt. the nitty-gritty stuff. That's always here too. Drizzly days full of old sweatpants, frizzy hair, cold cereal meals, and awkward moments.

Is this real life?
Yep.
And it's kind of the most beautiful thing.

Meet-Cute

{someone wanted a kiss. and someone didn't}

Baby Bean met his new cousin-girlfriend last night!
uhhhh.
His what?

Yeah. We're still deciding.
Only time will tell.

Confused?

Well, my best friend {since 1st grade} had her sweet baby girl!

and since we're best friends,
why not encourage {force} our children into friendship too?
or an arranged marriage.
either or. potato potahto.

but Em is more like a sister to me.
Taylor Grace and Josiah James might just have to remain in the cousin zone.
The romantic in me says "le sigh" to that one.

I'll update you guys in 20 years or so.
after the cootie phase has passed by.
and especially after the awkward stage.

Whim Wham Weekend #21

Highlights

*Cashing in my traditional Christmas gift: Girl's day with mama Rachael! Lunch and a Nordstrom shopping spreeeeeee.

*Stud Hubs and Baby Bean spent an afternoon downtown, drinking coffee/milk, getting kicked out of bars* typical male bonding stuff.

*Late night catching up with our DVR and munching on homemade kettle corn.

*Breakfast at Starbucks. The Chonga bagel is back! all is forgiven Starbucks. no hard feelings.

*Random flurry of snowflakes!

*Eating practically like rabbits and uber-healthy for a week...before I caved and politely asked in the most lady-like of ways {demanded in my sleep-deprived-hair-unwashed-teeth-unbrushed-sweatpants-wearing state} for anything and everything chocolate.

*A husband who understands the power of chocolate. and buys lots of it. Then lets me fall into a sugar coma, take a shower, paint my nails, eat more ice cream...

*technically, they did get kicked out of a bar. you can't take a baby into the bar area for happy hour. or take a baby into the bar at any hour. cough* Daniel*cough

Laughing Gas

{via}

You should know that one of my biggest life cravings is Mexican food.
The meat. The cheese. The spice.
Bring it on. Daily. Por Favor.
The beans though, might have to start staying on the plate and out of my stomach.
Recently, I ate those glorious refried beans.
Full of salt and lard.
and glory glory glory.
{what was my New Year's resolution again?}
But after two full days of an angry every-time-he-kicked his-legs-he-farted Baby...Bean {ironic},
I vowed to be a better breastfeeding mama and omit them, amongst other things, from my diet.

Even thought the farting. was. hysterical.

I also sent Daniel to the store to pick up some Gripe Water.
Just in case I have a moment of pinto bean weakness in the near future.
He bought it. I thanked him. for the Gripe Water.
He said your welcome. for the Grape Water.
And I was all, nooooo, it's called GrIpe Water. "I"

Yes. My husband thought I was saying Grape. The word Grape, over and over again, but in a strange Australian accent.
and it didn't even phase him.
Because I am just that weird, and I would do that.
He knows me too well.

Welcome to our daily life.

Olé!

Smooth Operator

{coffee date with two of his aunties/girlfriends}

Baby Bean is a ladies' man. That's for sure.
One look into his deep blue {for now} eyes, and he'll get ya.

The barista at Peet's.
The cashier at New Seasons.
The general public that we come into contact with these days.

got you got you got you.

not to mention, those teeny-tiny baby biceps.

oh.my.heart.

you better believe he's got me goooooood.

Food for Thought

{lame}

brown. and bland.
That's what your lunch looks like when you haven't gone grocery shopping in 6 weeks.
My sad cardboard (two heels! pitiful) PB&J will have to suffice,
while I sketch out our plan of attack for the store later today.
I'm dreaming of prime rib. haagen dazs. anything cheese.
anything and everything food.

Reality.
somehow the stud hubs and I declared January 2012, the month where all things healthy resume in our life full-time.
Original. right.

I guess it's

farewell to you, my dear sweet open 'til midnight drive-thrus.
until we meet again, during my next pregnancy...
or, let's be honest,
next week after I've burned a thousand calories while feeding Baby Bean.
yeahhhhh. next week sounds about right.

new resolution
mama gets what mama wants.

Fine Art is Baaaaack

See those three tiny hearts?
took blood.sweat.tears. to draw those darn things.
and they still ended up looking like flying butts.

Here is Baby Bean's official introduction into my {Fine Art} posts.

And in case you're wondering if Daniel can really hold him with one {stick} arm like that...
no. no he cannot.
I was just too lazy to make everything realistically proportional.
This isn't Thomas Kinkade, people.

The Day Has Arrived

{via}

Towards the end of my pregnancy, I was getting anxiously excited about returning to the gym.
and reacquainting myself with {this} on a regular basis again.

I have always been an athletic-minded and activity-involved kind of girl.
And the last few weeks of pregnancy...

{the few weeks where the simple task of putting on a pair of shoes became a feat of Olympic proportions.
and waddling from one end of Target to the other was my IronMan}

Never in my life had I wanted to do a pushup more.

My midwife gave me the exercise green-light the other day.
Daniel gave me the snazzy new Nike shoes.

My gallon of chocolate milk is sitting in the fridge.

There's my secret to success.
a sugary post-workout drink.

and honestly, what I'm most excited about. per usual.

Time to do a pushup. or two.

eek.

I Was Made for This

{ringing in the new year}

Productive days with a 5-week old can be somewhat of a challenge.
Floors don't get vacuumed. Toilet paper runs out. Afternoon snuggles usually win.

Perhaps it's the competitive streak in me.
{I was "that" girl who arm wrestled the boys during recess}

I enjoy a good challenge.

Juggling a wiggly baby in one hand and a tube of mascara in the other.

Things are getting done around here.
Maybe not right away. And definitely not in the moving-mountains-esque category. But getting done, nonetheless.

And toilet paper was bought today. In case you were worrying about that.

We were starting to eye the Kleenox box though. Not gonna lie.

Happiest New Year

Dreaming big this year

2012

*Daniel: TrailBlazers win an NBA Championship
*Bon Bon: Move into/decorate, a new {or old} house.
*Baby Bean: All you can eat buffet, of milk.

What do you have your sights set on in the next 365ish days?
