Little Life Lessons

{learning something.perhaps}

a few things from this week

*{These} are the best.skinnies.ever. If someone melted butter, poured it over my legs, let it dry...then and only then, would that equate to the wonderment of these pants. Slightly more expensive than butter, but worth every penny. Buy them.

*{This} local story is inspiring and beautiful. 271 lbs. in 2 years? Now you have to read it.

*{This} soap is making my life sweet. Especially with the amount of time I spend running to the bathroom these days... at 2AM, 4AM, and 6AM respectively.

*Someone compared me to {her}. Someone, I love you. Seriously though, you know who you are. And we really are best friends now.

*I'm pretty sure a 14-year old boy hit on me this week.
Should I be worried that
A. he's attracted to older women. who are pregnant.
B. he thought I was 14. and pregnant. and still was attracted.

And Daniel learned that birthing classes have funny animated videos. and pictures. and not so funny live action videos. involving things like mucous plugs and the ring of fire.

zero to ten centimeters, people. zero to ten.
lest we forget.

Confessions of a Nanny

{Poker Face}

Yeah. I might be the coolest nanny ever.
Not only do I build a mean Lego city flat bed truck,
I am also molding young minds. America's future.
Learning how to gamble.

Poker is educational. Numbers. Letters. Strategy. Competition.

We're hardcore. No juvenile games of Chutes&Ladders for us.

Yes sir. High stakes. All or nothing.

Honestly, it's more of a Poker-Go Fish fusion.

I mean, the dealer is only 5 years old after all.

Key Rules:

The Jack magically transforms into whatever card you need
The Joker forces you to hand over all of your chips

really, we have no idea what we're doing.
and I always lose.

Hair Did

{snip snip}

{the cut} went down this weekend.
Bangs were created.
Split ends were trimmed.
Hairs were straightened.

My 7 year old cousin said I looked beautiful.

Ego officially boosted.

Couch Potato

2 adults. 1 womb. 1 large pizza. 1 couch. 8 shows on dvr.
It just happened.

What hasn't happened (miraculously)...
me gaining 100 lbs.

I guess that means Baby Bean is sucking up every morsel.
Growing bigger.
And rounder.

And that round chubby russian head is getting ready to squeeze out of you know where.

Until then,
I've got a few more weeks to sit around in my underwear and eat ice cream.

We are so gonna be the cool parents.

Mom Hair?

{I might take the plunge back into bang-ville}

Fridays are always my special day. I highly suggest having a job that gives you 3 day weekends.
{mandatory three day weekends should probably be written into the Constitution or something. Just sayin'}

Usually, I like to jumpstart the weekend and tackle all of my to-do stuff, plus relish in a bit of "me" time.
Sleep in. Coffee dates. Grocery shopping. Midwife appointments. Toilet scrubbing.
A mish-mash of everything.

A happy wife is a happy life.

Next on the Friday agenda: Hair appointment.
I finally stopped procrastinating and scheduled it.
Korean/German genes mixed with pre-natal vitamins...it's a little out of control up top.

Whadyathink?

Should I hop aboard the Bang Bang Choo Choo Train?

Yay or Nay

Lock it Up

Locked out of the house. Banished to the backyard.
We could survive 15 minutes though, right? Until the munchkins' mama came home. Right?

And then, munchkins' mama realized she didn't have her house key either.
And munchkins' papa was out of town.
And the only available spare key took 2 hours of driving to track down.

A mutiny of grumbling stomachs and peed-on-carseats ensued.

I'm assuming you can tell who did what.

I still love my Thursdays though.

Smarty Pants

{girls rule. boys drool}

I have been trying for weeks and weeks to beat the stud hubs at WWF.
WWF.
Words With Friends
not
the former wrestling organization.

We do like to wrestle though.
Basically anything involving a winner and a loser: we like.

When Daniel and I first started dating, it was our love of sports/competition that brought us together.
Skipping classes in favor of some sand volleyball.
And flirting.
But mostly, volleyball.

If we're on a team together, it's like Goose and Maverick.

But on different teams...against each other...I turn into Iceman.

Example
Once, he blocked one of my spikes.
Then I accidentally kicked him in the gonads.
Key words: "once", and "accidentally"

Hooray for Happy Healthy Marriages!

Young Love

Baby Bean, meet {Baby Tay}
your future wife. no pressure.
Look, she's waving.
And totally batting those lashes at you.
She has lashes AND eyebrows now.
ooo-la-la.
We should probably figure out your name soon-ish.
Not sure she wants to fall in love with a boy named "Bean."

Whim Wham Weekend #17

{highlights}

1). Found Mr. Lincoln on the sidewalk. mo' money mo' problems? Nah.

2). {Bob's biscuits} There was this one time, I ordered four. Perhaps the best day of my life.

3). {Martha's Mac&Cheese} I braved the kitchen during a 96 degree afternoon to make it. Yes. It was worth all the sweat and tears. And yes, I was in my underwear the entire time.

4). Football. All the live long {sun}day.

5). A friend just gave me the heads up about these glory bombs, found locally {here}. Oh yeah. They're called: bonbonbunbuns. No big deal.

So Fresh and So Clean Clean

{1 bucket=shower in Africa. Squeaky clean}

If I believed in the Chinese Zodiac calendar, then I would dub 2011 as the Year of the Water Heater.

{the extent of my superstitious beliefs is when I read a fortune cookie and add "in bed" at the end}

We're still recovering from {this} night, so when our hot water turned cold this week we promptly called a professional and shivered through a 3.6 minute shower in the meantime.

For 3.6 minutes I wished I had my "summer as a boy" short hair again.

Maybe the Big Guy in the Sky is trying to teach us to never take warm water for granted?
Maybe we're being prepared for life back in Rwanda. The Land of a Thousand Hills and Cold Bucket Showers.
Maybe this is all just a part of being an adult.

Oooh. so deep.
hello goosebumps.

Indian Summer

{ummm. ok oregon. ok}

There I was.
Guzzling down a pumpkin spice latte and flipping through H&M's Fall collection.

I thought it was Fall. September. Crisp. Cold.

And then I found myself sitting in Reser Stadium for some college football action.
No. Sitting isn't the right word.
melting.
That's it.

When I stood up, I'm pretty sure everyone around me breathed a sigh of relief when they
realized the huge spot on my shorts was only sweat.

no, my water didn't break.

But I'm sure when it does, I will be in a very public place.
This is my life we're talking about.
Then I'll draw a cartoon about it, and we can all have a good
laugh.
bada bing bada boom

Love, Peace, and Iced Pumpkin Spice Lattes.

I Get Presents Today, Right?

{via}

Happy Labor Day!

Ahhh. yes.
Labor has a whole new meaning for me this year.

Today I am reminded of baby labor.
the epitome of hard work.

Which I will be experiencing in a matter of weeks.
Perhaps for hours. or days on end.

Yeah.
I'm sooooo not lifting a finger today.

Oh September, You got me

{final summer nights}

Warm breeze. Rooftop view. Portland lights.

{this} is one of my favorite places in the city.

Probably helps that we always get a little (a lotta) pampered when we go.
like, Sushi/Chicken/Salmon/Scallops/Steak/Fried Rice/Ice Cream/3 bottles of Prosecco-pampered.

{special treatment for the bump. I'm such a diva}

I was having such a good time, that I stayed behind while Daniel went down the street a few blocks to do his fantasy football draft.

free ice cream>football season

Baby Bean was on my side with this one too.

shhh. don't tell the stud hubs I said that.

As the summer sun goes down, I realize that the warmth of life truly comes from relationships and living fully, in community.

Maybe it's the hormones.
Maybe it's the growing up.
Maybe it's the truth.

...

It's the truth.
For sure.

Buddha Belly

{27 Weeks. and popping}

My belly button is officially an outie now!
Baby Bean is way way bigger than a bean now. He's the size of an eggplant.
Kids these days.
They grow up too fast.
sniffle.

Sometimes our energetic eggplant will kick Daniel in the back while we're trying to sleep.
Especially when a certain daddy-to-be is snoring.

Oh wait.
That's my foot.

Sorry babe.

And in other-equally-exciting news...I made {THIS} recipe again.
It was delicious, but we realized something was missing as we chomped away.
Oh yeah.
The shards of glass.

Yes. That would be sarcasm.

P.S. I'm definitely rocking the pre-pregnancy skinny jeans in that photo.
However
I'm definitely rocking the plumber's crack in the back.
