Want to See Something Scary?

{1920s neighborhood eyesore--->2013 flipped gem}

Right after touring this house, falling in love, making an offer, and beginning the closing process (all in one weekend),
we discovered the BEFORE pictures.
dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnnn.

{we had fun excitedly showing our family/friends  the before photos of our "new" place, as if it still looked like this, and then watching their faked and forced happy reactions! "Soooo, you already put an offer on it?" "Oh, wow, is that...blue...carpet? (in reference to the ugliest blue threadbare carpet that had been hidden underneath cat skeletons for the past 70 years) Yes. We are evil}

I'd like to dedicate this post to our house flipper extraordinaire, Mr. Jeremy H.

Without you, we would be at Home Depot for the next three years.

Actually, no.

We would have run away. Far far far away from here.

So,

Without you, we would still be house hunting.

that's an even scarier thought.

xoxo

Seriously, house flipping is like the "new thing"! So many people are doing it! I would def consider it one day when I'm looking for a house. I think its so much better because building or buying a new house doesn't feel "home-y" and buying an old house is not updated or renovated but if you flip a house, you get the best of both worlds. I love your new space! Btw- I love following your blog. You are a really talented and funny writer:)

Do you know what's also scary?! We had the SAME experience with our house. Found our "before" flipping pictures on the internet after started moving in.

EWW! Those guys sure do have vision!

Yay for afters! Our house is still in the thick of revamping. Oh man. We got such a good deal on this place...for a reason. Maybe by the time Fern's in high school we'll have this place looking good :).

PS I like that my barely one-year-old baby girl is probably the same size as your older baby boy. #babygiant haha!

Oooh those dark floors. My absolute favorite! We are about to start checking out some other houses and will have to decide on fixed-up or fixer-upper... I'd like to say I have the vision and drive for the DIY house, but that sure is some commitment. We'll just have to see if I fall for one I guess. :)

When we were working on our first house, it had all been painted white in a pretty crappy manner at some point before we moved in. You could see orange in lots of places under it and we begin to realize that the entire inside of the house was orange at one point. I mean walls, doors, trim, molding...everything. I have no idea what kind of people could have been living there.

It looks really great! I'm sure you guys will make it look even better once you can do your own thing with it ;)

It's so funny though, where we live it's completely normal to buy an old, scary looking house for no money and to make it look brand new! Like we're doing!

Wow--that's quite a difference! There must have been plenty of hard work put into your house--it's great that you get to benefit from it!

I’m glad Mr. Jeremy was there to bring out the beauty concealed beneath the mold-infested floor. Your new house definitely looks better now! I’m sure you’re still probably too tired after undergoing the whole buying process to think of the renovations. I hope for your family to have a happy stay! :)

You must’ve been grateful to have someone like Mr. Jeremy H.! When my husband and I did some house hunting years ago, we also asked for the help of an agent. It’s really helpful because he really made it easier for us to find our ideal home. We didn’t worry a lot about finding great deals as we have someone whom we can rely on when it comes to purchasing a house.

Thanks for sharing your stories, Bon Bon. Your new house can be open for some customization because you have a wider space, which what a house hunters look for in a house. It's good to know that the first look did not stop you from making a deal on this house.
