New York Fashion Week: The Truth Hurts, Bloggers

{Lincoln Center/2014}

   My dear friend JJ lives in the big city, specifically Midtown, so, of course I want to visit. Hello, Shake Shack. I mean, Hello, rekindling friendship. (We didn't even so much as glance at a Shake Shack this time. So bourgeois!)
It's becoming somewhat of a traditional trip-thing. Chocolate. Macarons. Brunch. Wine. Bergdorf. Daniel anxiously watching the banking account from the west coast. Return home to boy life and monster trucks and it's all good. Tradition!
The past two years, my itinerary has worked out best to have me go during Fashion Week. I say that like it's a bad thing. Annnd, well.
Fashion week is...cold. Fashion week is also, inspiring, energetic, and just plain fun.

Gone are the days when you could waltz into any show "dressed to impress" though. You'll need to flash that invitation inside of your Chloe bag. Of which, I have neither.
"I swear I'm an important person! People know me! Kelly Cutrone said hello to me backstage last winter. That Fred Meyer campaign of 2002? Allllll this. Right here."
The security guards are not impressed this year.

   Business Insider writes, "Over the last decade, the show has become crowded with fashion bloggers, street photographers, and others with little connection to the industry. But IMG Fashion, the company that puts together the annual show, tells The Wall Street Journal all of that is about to change.
   "It was becoming a zoo," Catherine Bennett, the senior vice president and managing director at IMG Fashion Events and Properties, said to the WSJ. "What used to be a platform for established designers to debut their collections to select media and buyers has developed into a cluttered, often cost-prohibitive and exhausting period for our industry to effectively do business."

   Honestly, they are so right. We shouldn't be there. I'm not buying a $5,000 coat anytime soon (in this lifetime). 20% of the media list from last year wasn't there. The Kardashians should definitely never ever never ever be there.
Unless your name is Cara Delevigne or Anna Wintour (or Simon Doonan, Joe Zee, Grace Coddington, and you get the picture). Oh, and of course Bill Cunningham, cause, BILL FLIPPIN' CUNNINGHAM. He's so old and cute and can do whatever he wants.

This year we hit up Milk Studios and the pop-up shops to check out those "up and comers" in fashion. They welcomed us Lincoln Center refugees with open arms and an open bar. My people! Cheap wine and reality tv stars? THIS is where I belong.

And the bloggers were still in full force.
We bumped into an entire room of people fangirling a certain famous fashion blogger that shall remain unnamed (unless you were to scroll through the night's IG hashtag, and if so, well done Sherlock) while she-herself-and her alone had an awkward faux photo shoot at a Marc Jacobs event. Nope, nope, just...can't.

Of course, then we hopped in with our Daisy perfume props and, snap, click, print, Selfie!
After all, it was a social media party.

#hypocrites.

Five in the Morning

Anyone else automatically channel their inner Cara Delevingne whenever they put on a beanie?

(Disclaimer: In this case, pretending to be a 21 year old English supermodel is the result of a too-early stumble out of bed + an over caffeinated remedy. Cheerio!)

P.S.I've been living to love/loving to live in my Phillip Lim for Target sweatshirt.
(Target "BOOM" version: $30---3.1 Phillip Lim "KA-POW" version: $425) Hey, for a savings of $400 I'll take the sweatshirt version every time. Besides, %100 wool and fancy pants dry cleaning only disclaimers are a recipe for disaster in my world.

The Bean Wears This

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
 Sticky Cheeks: Jam on Hawthorne, Hat: Gap, Sweater: H&M, Chambray: Gap,
Pants: H&M, Shoes: Zara

And this is why a "Baby Sartorialist," does not exist.

Dressing/documenting toddlers is like herding cats.
Angry, apple-juice covered, striped sweater-wearing, nap-skipping...cats.

The Bean Wears This

Beanie: H&M, Sweatshirt: H&M, Vest: Old Navy, Pants: H&M, Shoes: Zara

We like to call this the "One Less Lonely Girl" outfit.
Which is ironic, because there will, indeed, be a lot of lonely girls for quite a long time.
{He's not dating anyone until, oh, 2045}

Especially after these photos.
There's a hint of "smolder" in that last one.

Sheesh.

Mom Jeans

Boots: Thrifted, Jeans: Kut, Chambray: Target, Sweatshirt: DIY

That sneaky 25th year of life is creeping up on me.
Twenty. Five.
Otherwise known as,
Holy. Cow.

Which is almost Thirty. And practically Forty.
With a hint of Fifty.

My wide bootcut denim is quickly becoming a gateway jean to tapered elastic SNL skits involving Tina Fey.

Breathe in. Breathe out.
Just numbers. Silly old numbers. Nothing more, nothing less.

Who am I kidding,
 I've always been somewhat of an old soul anyway.
At age 10 {and apparently going on 110}, I dressed up as George Frideric Handel for Halloween.
Complete with powdered wig.

And parts of my beauty routine now, involve Elizabeth Arden for goodness' sake.

...

But some parts still involve Bonne Bell.
And the closet part is involving a whole lot of Forever 21.

Crap.

Vintage Priorities

This outfit post could be titled,
"A Sunny Afternoon in Homage to Annie Hall."
or,
"1970s Librarian's Puzzled Expressions Over Husband's Camera Handling."

But really, it should be, has to be, and must be best captioned as,
"Umm. Excuse Me. Hi. Why Is No One Playing Trains With Me?"

Fashion and the Flu

{vitamin c. yes please}

Even though I'm feeling a little under the weather, I figured I might as well try and get out of my sweatpants uniform and dress for the day like a normal functioning human being. Then I had an epiphany. Twofold. (A). I'm not normal. I've learned to embrace the quirky. (B). Sweatpants are fashionable these days.

I double checked my resources upon this revelation.

{Yigal Azrouƫl, Alexander Wang, and Rag & Bone}

Comfort and style? You don't have to choose one over the other? It's too good to be true! So, I threw together my own version, cause I'm ridiculous like that, even when stricken with the black lung. Did I mention I get really dramatic whilst sick? Haha. Whilst.

{tired eyes. bright lips}

Top: Lulus
Necklace: A gift from Spain
Sweatpants: Aerie
Shoes: Michael Antonio

I posed for a bit. Contemplated life. Practiced my runway walk, just for old times' sake. Ate a grapefruit. Good times were had. Good times.

Then I kicked off my heels and snuggled back onto the couch.

After all, isn't that what sweatpants really were created for? Let's be honest here.

The red lipstick stayed on though. I still wanted to feel a bit glamorous for the day and, surprisingly, it pairs well with a red runny nose. Whowhouldathunkit.

Would you ever take your sweatpants out of the gym and into the "real" world?

Ballerina Bon Bon

Recently we watched this movie.

It was pretty. It was dark. White Swan. Black Swan. Ballet scenes and oh.my.not.for.the.faint.of.heart.scenes. Black moments encompassed the majority of the film, but the mixture of beautiful and gloomy was so intertwined, that by the end of it, I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. Did something ethereal just happen, or plain ol' crazy?

I still can't decide if I even liked the darn thing. Your thoughts?

Regardless, it was the fashion that inspired me most. Hello Rodarte! Hello cashmere, leggings, shrugs, airy skirts, off-shoulder sweaters and tights in grey, nude, and blush tones. Long gone are my days at the barre in my pink leotard, {maybe that's why I've become so clumsy in life. sad story}, but I can still pretend to be graceful!

Here's my interpretation of Swan Lake via my closet. I pulled out a few things that make me feel like a dainty ballerina and I possibly did a pliƩ or two along the way, just saying.

Fashion Fuel: Topshop

Here's a little something to warm you up

{via}

I was browsing through Topshop's Spring/Summer Collections today. If I can't actually be in Sweden for the summer, I guess the next best thing is to look the part. I'm always up for being a little 70's, a tad Bohemian, and slightly European. I think it's how long my hair is now, I'm feeling free-spirited. Maybe start carrying a tambourine?

Even if your fashion-conscience won't let you jump into this look full-force, that doesn't mean you have to abandon it completely! Mix in a breezy floral print, a delicate cardigan, some lace, suede, a maxi dress, chunky wedges, etc. Little touches here and there.

I threw together an outfit that I would like to wear all summer long:

Flowers in your hair are optional, but always appreciated. Especially in Portland.

Shout out to a few of my European lovelies that I'm missing today: Birgitta, Marta, Ruthie, Victoria, Tina, Louise, Birgitte, Iina, Kata, Susanne, Stina, Jenny, Miriam, Kath, and Helena.

Hope you are having a lively Saturday. Lovely and lively!

xoxo
